In June last year the Spanish Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and the Regional Government of the Canary Islands signed the agreement to launch the Europe Senior Tourism pilot programme in the Canary Islands. This region joins the Regions of Andalusia, Balearic Islands and Valencia, which are already part of the programme. The objectives for the Spanish Government and these regions are the same: to rekindle the economy in tourist areas in the low season and maintain and improve employment in the sector, as well as to contribute to active ageing and to build the concept of European Citizenship.
